Committees / Volunteers

volunteers

Knox Heritage has many opportunities for volunteers to get involved. Whether it’s helping plan or execute a special event, doing clerical work in the office, getting your hands dirty in the architectural salvage program, or serving on a committee – there is something for everyone. Scroll down to learn about other opportunities to be involved.

There are five major areas of volunteer work where you can get involved and make a difference.

1. OFFICE / CLERICAL WORK

We often need folks to help stuff envelopes, file paperwork, do research, or organize shelves and closets. Contact the office at 865-523-8008 if you can help for 2 hours or more at a time. No drop-by help, please; we need this kind of work to be arranged in advance. Contact Hollie Cook for more information.

2. HISTORIC WESTWOOD DOCENT PROGRAM

Historic Westwood is one of the Historic Homes of Knoxville and is open as a museum house and art gallery to the public Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Volunteer docents are trained to give tours of the house during these times and typically serve one or two three-hour sessions per month.Contact Hollie Cook for more information.

3. ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE/ THE Salvage shop

Knox Heritage accepts and sells donated architectural salvage to help support our other efforts and to provide important resources to the community. There are several ways you can help in the shop, day-to-day retail, picking up salvage, and clerical work. Learn more about this work here. Contact Julie Schwab for more information.

4. SPECIAL EVENTS

We often need greeters and other work requiring lots of smiles at some of our events. It’s a great way to meet other Knox Heritage members and to learn more about the work we do. (Please note: Most Summer Supper host teams are arranged well in advance through our Special Events Committee.) Contact Hollie Cook for more information.

5. COMMITTEE SERVICE

Knox Heritage board members and other individuals have made a commitment to meet once a month to help accomplish various aspects of our work in historic preservation. We encourage anyone who might be interested in the following areas and activities to join us at a committee meeting. Not sure where you would best fit in? Visit several committees before you make a decision. Contact Hollie Cook for more information.
