John Craig, pioneer of the East Tennessee marble business, wed Mary C. Lyon of Lyons Bend in antebellum Knoxville. In 1886, John Craig, Jr. bought land from his Lyon grandmother to build a summer home, Glen Craig. In 1926, Craig’s sister extensively remodeled the cottage into a marble-walled Tudor Revival structure in the “Cotswold” idiom. Set among large trees beside the Lyon millpond, Glen Craig provides an idyllic site for our Lyon Family Sunday Supper. Before supper, enjoy appetizers and tours of the 200 year old log Lyon residence and Craiglen, built in 1926 by John Craig III to showcase marble from the Craig quarries and Candoro Marble Company. Charles Barber designed the house in the 15th century Florentine style. Note: wear walking shoes.
