Each year, Knox Heritage selects new places to visit and explore with our members who want to experience and learn about historic places across the country and around the globe. It is our hope they will return to East Tennessee and put their experiences to work preserving the heritage of our region.
In 2014 we traveled to Cuba to see the architectural and cultural riches of this Caribbean jewel. Our group received behind-the-scenes tours from architects and preservation specialists not normally afforded to others visiting the island.
For 2015, we chose the Eternal City of Rome as our study destination. In keeping with our goal to get in places off-the-beaten-path, we made arrangements with a tour company that specialized in art and architecture travel. Our insider guide ensured we were able to experience must-see art and architecture, the best restaurants, fine local shops and the people and culture that make Rome such an unforgettable place.
In the future, we hope to arrange for domestic trips to explore the art, architecture and culture closer to home. Some of the places we are considering: Charleston, SC; Savannah, GA; Newport, RI; Charlottesville, VA
These study tours not only provide unique and fascinating adventures for our members, they also help fund Knox Heritage’s work preserving the architectural heritage and culture of East Tennessee.
