About the H-1 Gap Fund
Knox Heritage, with funding from the City of Knoxville’s Preservation Fund, is offering limited “gap funding” to eligible homeowners residing within one of the City of Knoxville’s H-1 Historic Overlay districts. The intent of the Gap Fund program is to assist eligible homeowners with “additional costs” that may derive from requirements associated with receiving a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior property repairs, maintenance or improvements. It will also reimburse the Historic Zoning Commission application fee in full For Level I or II.
This is a reimbursement program that will reimburse a qualifying portion of total project expenses. Applicants must be able to pay for all project costs in advance. Funding is available on a first come, first served basis based on the date the application is received. Knox Heritage will begin accepting applications on July 10. All projects must be completed by December 1, 2019. Knox Heritage retains the right to approve or deny all applications received.

How do I know if my project will require a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the Historic Zoning Commission?
Check the Design Guidelines for your district on the MPC Historic Zoning Commission website. Here, you will also find an application for a COA.
My house is located in a National Register District, but not within an H-1 overlay. Am I still eligible?
No. This grant only applies to properties located within a current H-1 overlay. If you are not sure whether your property is within an H-1 overlay district, you can use KGIS Maps (enter your address in the search bar, click on the + symbol to zoom in to your property, and turn on the zoning layer) or email Hollie Cook at email@example.com for confirmation.
What are some qualifying projects?
Repair or replacement of roofs, windows, front entrances, porches, siding, and masonry.
What are some projects that would not qualify?
Exterior painting, fences, landscaping, lighting, walkways, and driveways.
