Knoxville College and KH team up to preserve historic buildings on campus

A new partnership has been formed between Knox Heritage and Knoxville College with the purpose of preserving historic buildings within the Knoxville College Historic District near Mechanicsville.  Many of the buildings located on the KC campus are in poor condition, unprotected from the elements, and they need to be stabilized immediately to prevent further decay.  To that end, funds are being raised to repair all the windows in the historic buildings. Few original windows remain and existing replacements need upgrading.  With guidance from architect Frank Sparkman and KC interim president Dr. Johnnie Cannon, replacement windows will be designed to meet the Secretary of Interior standards as required.  Work will begin at McKee Hall, the main administrative building, and continue to other historic structures including those built by former students from the early years of the college.  The window replacement program could be the first of other efforts to stabilize these important structures.  Knox Heritage, acting as the fiscal agent in this partnership, will manage the funds and construction process.

To make a donation to the Knoxville College Windows Program, send a check to Knox Heritage with “KC Windows” in the memo line.  100% of designated funds will be directed to this effort.
